Morton Cowan

Dr. Morton J. Cowan is an internationally recognized pediatric immunologist and Emeritus Professor of Pediatrics at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital. Dr. Cowan’s career has focused on children with primary immunodeficiency with over 250 peer-reviewed publications. His research interests include SCID in Athabascan-speaking Native Americans, and use of gene therapy to correct Artemis-deficient SCID (ART-SCID) and X-SCID. He identified the mutation responsible for ART-SCID in Navajo and Apache children. He is leading the first-in-human clinical trial of gene therapy for patients with ART-SCID.
