Olivier Goureau

Institut de la Vision, Paris

Olivier Goureau received his academic training at the University of Orsay (Paris-11). After completing his PhD, he dedicated over 20 years to researching retinal physiopathology at INSERM (Paris) and UCLA (Los Angeles). In 2003, he joined the research group led by Professor José-Alain Sahel and currently leads the "Retinal Development and Repair" team at the Vision Institute in Paris.  His team focuses on developing innovative cell therapy strategies using human pluripotent stem cells as a source of retinal cells to treat degenerative retinal diseases such as glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration (AMD), and hereditary dystrophies. They have also established methods to generate patient-derived retinal organoids to model these diseases in vitro. Olivier Goureau holds four international patents and has co-authored over 100 publications in the field. Recognized as leader in ocular regenerative medicine, his team actively participates in national and international collaborative research projects and is frequently invited to speak at numerous international conferences
