Fulvio Mavilio

University of Modena

Fulvio Mavilio is Professor of Molecular Biology at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Modena, Italy, and, from January 2022, Chief Scientific Officer of Orchard Therapeutics, London. Previously, he was CSO of Smart Immune, Paris; Vice President, Translational Science at Audentes Therapeutics, San Francisco (2017-2021); Adjunct Professor of Genetics at the Paris Descartes University, Paris (2017); Scientific Director of Genethon, Evry, (2011-2017); co-Director of the Center for Regenerative Medicine at the University of Modena, (2008-2011); Director of Discovery at Molmed SpA (2002-2005), and co-Director of the San Raffaele-Telethon Institute of Gene Therapy in Milan, Italy (1994-1999). He obtained a Ph.D. in Medical Genetics at the University of Rome in 1979, and trained at the Wistar Institute in Philadelphia, PA (1986-1988). An expert and a pioneer in the fields of gene therapy and stem cell research, Dr. Mavilio has published over 200 articles in major international journals. He is a member of the European Molecular Biology Organization and past member of the Boards of the ASGCT and ESGCT.
