Greg Towers

I am a Professor of Virology at UCL. My lab takes a multidisciplinary approach to studying intracellular innate immunity. We want to understand how cells detect and react to infection to produce interferons and antiviral proteins and also how viruses such as HIV-1 and SARS-CoV-2 manage to infect us despite these defences. We also seek to use our new knowledge to improve gene therapy by manipulating cellular defences and improving vector infectivity.
